Khaberni - A woman set a young woman on fire in front of an entertainment venue in Istanbul, Turkey, after experiencing a severe bout of jealousy, claiming there was a relationship between the victim and her lover.
The horrific attack in the Kadıköy district resulted in 33-year-old Gözde Yılmaz suffering severe burns and being admitted to intensive care, while the attacker was arrested and sent to jail after interrogation.
The incident occurred while Yılmaz was sitting with friends in front of an entertainment venue in the Kafiraga district; the attacking woman approached and poured a flammable substance onto her head.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker screamed, "Are you with my lover?" before igniting the fire using a lighter, leaving the victim ablaze in front of bystanders before fleeing.
Yılmaz’s friends attempted to extinguish the fire immediately, but her body suffered third-degree burns, necessitating her rapid transport to the hospital.
Police managed to capture the suspect after a lengthy chase and she was referred to court which ordered her detainment as a precaution, while authorities continue the investigation, confirming that jealousy was the motive behind the attack.
