Egypt Notable Development in the Case of Assault on Minors in Damietta

Khaberni - The Damietta Criminal Court has referred the documents of the accused who assaulted six minors from Al-Shu'ara village to the Egyptian Dar Al-Ifta, for obtaining the religious opinion on imposing a death penalty against him, as part of completing the legal procedures followed in such cases.

According to Egyptian media, the trial session witnessed a notable development, as the children of the accused formally requested the court to execute their father, expressing their total rejection of the acts attributed to him, and emphasizing their non-acceptance of such crimes that violate humanitarian and ethical values.

The details of the incident go back to the security forces in Damietta governorate receiving a report about a fifty-year-old man, an owner of an electrical supplies store, assaulting several minors and filming them for the purpose of extortion.

Subsequently, the accused was arrested and taken to the police station, in preparation for the commencement of investigations and the necessary legal actions against him.

The investigations revealed that the crime came to light when the family of one of the victims noticed the girl's repeated evasion from going to the accused’s store to recharge the household electricity card, which raised suspicions and led to further investigation, gradually unraveling the details of the incident.

The investigation documents clarified that the accused exploited the nature of his commercial activity to lure his victims by planning for them to come recharge their pre-paid electricity cards at his store, before assaulting and filming them, using the clips as a means of extortion and maintaining control over them.
