Khaberni - Large areas of the United States are bracing for one of the first winter weather waves of this season, today, Sunday, with falling temperatures and snowfall in the northern plains, the development of snowstorms eastward across the Great Lakes region, and the south preparing for a severe cold wave.

Parts of the Chicago area witnessed light snowfall on Sunday morning, as a prelude to a "heavy" snowfall expected to start in the evening in communities around Lake Michigan, where the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until tomorrow, Monday, with winds reaching speeds of 48 kilometers per hour and snowfall that could reach 46 centimeters.

Meteorologist Kevin Dom from the agency's office in Romeoville, Illinois, said: "This front will cause very heavy snowfall, and will create challenging scenarios during Monday morning commutes."

With falling temperatures in the central part of the country, weather experts warned of dangerous travel conditions through issuing winter weather alerts in Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

Snowfall occurred on Sunday morning in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where weather experts warned of poor visibility with accumulation expected to reach up to one foot by Monday.

In Indiana, experts predicted snowfall up to 28 centimeters, with warnings of "slippery surfaces" on the roads. In parts of Wisconsin, snowfall could reach up to 15 centimeters.
