Khaberni - The American Basketball League "NBA" plans to launch its own competition in Europe starting from October 2027, as stated by the executive director of its branch in the Old Continent at an event held in Milan late Friday.
George Eivazoglou said that they have identified 12 team locations, which are Berlin, Munich, Lyon, Paris, Athens, London, Manchester, Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, and Istanbul.
There is already a successful "EuroLeague" competition in Europe, but the NBA wants to get a share of this market.
Eivazoglou left the door open regarding whether teams from local European leagues that also play in EuroLeague could participate in his project or whether new teams would be established. The league has not yet been named, and in addition to the 12 teams, four more teams will be able to qualify for the European NBA league.
According to Eivazoglou, teams from the NBA's European expansion could face teams from the NBA itself in a special competition.
