Iran Rejects Accusations of Attempted Assassination of Israeli Ambassador

Khaberni - The Iranian Embassy in Mexico rejected on Friday the United States' and Israel's claims of thwarting Tehran's plot to assassinate the Israeli ambassador in Latin America.

The embassy described the accusations in a statement on its website as "media fabrications and a big lie aimed at damaging the friendly and historical relations between the two countries (Mexico and Iran), which we categorically refuse."

This came after the United States on Friday accused Iran of attempting to assassinate the Israeli Ambassador Einat Kranz Neiger in Mexico, in what it considered the latest attempt by Tehran to shift its conflict with Israel to another region of the world.

An American official, who requested anonymity, stated that the plot has currently been thwarted and poses no ongoing threat.

Meanwhile, Channel 12 in Israel accused the Iranian Revolutionary Guard of attempting to assassinate the Israeli ambassador in Mexico a few months ago in an operation that was foiled by local security agencies.

It added that the suspect in the assassination attempt is named Hassan Izadi.
