Trump clarified during his talk aboard his plane returning from Mar-a-Lago to Washington, that negotiations with Iran are unpredictable, adding that the option of striking remains if necessary.
Trump mentioned that Tehran agreed to most of the fifteen points presented by Washington, considering this a proof of the Iranians' seriousness, and expressed his optimism about reaching an agreement soon, possibly within the next week.
He said that Washington demands Tehran to give up its nuclear weapons and hand over what he called the "nuclear dust" extracted from the facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, which were bombed by the U.S. in 2025.
The U.S. President stated that the United States is negotiating with Iran both directly and indirectly, pointing out the participation of "envoys" in these communications without giving further details. He added that the negotiations are going very well, confirming that direct communication with Tehran is happening alongside dialogues through intermediaries.
Trump's statements come in the context of an ongoing military escalation since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a broad military operation against Iran that included major cities like Tehran. The strikes resulted in the death of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior regime officials, while Iran launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli and American targets in Gulf states such as Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, as part of their response to the U.S.-Israeli bombing.
