Khaberni - A recent Brazilian study revealed the benefits of olive oil and its role in preventing obesity and enhancing brain health.
The journal Nutritional Neuroscience reported that, through experiments on obese mice, Brazilian scientists discovered that adding extra virgin olive oil to the diet helps prevent inflammation in the hypothalamus, the area of the brain responsible for regulating hunger and metabolism. The mice that consumed olive oil showed less weight gain and improved metabolic processes.
The journal clarified that a research team led by Ariadne Perez at the University of Sao Paulo provided the mice with a high-fat diet, with olive oil added for some of them. After several weeks, the researchers observed a reduction in inflammation in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus in the mice that had consumed the oil, which is an area typically affected by obesity. The researchers indicate that consuming extra virgin olive oil might be a promising approach to preventing metabolic disorders associated with obesity.
Extra virgin olive oil is extracted through the mechanical pressing of olives without refining or using heat, making it rich in polyphenols and vitamin E, both of which are antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents that play a role in supporting overall health.
