Khaberni - US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Iran is wondering if it is possible to lift the US sanctions imposed on it.
Trump told reporters late on Thursday at the White House, “Iran is wondering about the possibility of lifting the sanctions. Iran is subject to severe US sanctions, which make it difficult for it to do what it wants to do. I am open to hearing this, and we will see what happens, but I am open to it.”
The Iranian mission to the United Nations in New York has not yet responded to a request for comment.
On Monday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that cooperation between Iran and the United States is not possible as long as Washington continues to support Israel and maintains military bases and intervenes in the affairs of the Middle East.
After the start of his second presidential term in January, Trump resumed the policy of “maximum pressure” on Iran, aiming to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon. The United States bombed Iranian nuclear sites in June.
The two countries held five rounds of nuclear talks before a 12-day war broke out between Iran and Israel in June. The talks between the two sides faced major obstacles, such as uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, which Western powers want to reduce to zero to diminish any chance of nuclear armament. Tehran rejects this plan.
