Google Challenges Nvidia Launching the Most Powerful AI Chip in Its History

Khaberni - Google has unveiled the launch of the seventh generation of its specialized artificial intelligence (AI) processors (TPU), known as Ironwood, which will be commercially available in the coming weeks after a testing period that began last April.

The company stated that the new Ironwood chip, completely designed in-house at Google labs, is capable of handling the most demanding AI tasks, from training massive models to operating robots and smart assistants in real-time, according to a report published by the "CNBC" network and reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business".

Google is able to link more than 9,200 chips in a single unit (Pod) to speed up data processing and remove bottlenecks in giant models.

Direct competition with "Nvidia"
With this move, Google aims to break Nvidia's dominance in the AI processor market, as most major companies still rely on Graphics Processing Units (GPU) produced by Nvidia.

Google is betting that its custom in-house design will provide higher performance, energy efficiency, and lower costs compared to traditional solutions.

The company explained that the new generation is more than four times faster than the previous generation. Meanwhile, Anthropic, the developer of the Claude model, plans to use up to one million Ironwood chips to operate its advanced model.

Google announced comprehensive updates to its cloud services to make them faster and more flexible, in fierce competition with "Amazon Web Services" and "Microsoft Azure".

Google recorded cloud revenues of 15.15 billion dollars during the third quarter of 2025, up 34% on a yearly basis, while the company raised its capital expenditure ceiling to 93 billion dollars to meet the increasing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said: "We're witnessing immense demand for AI infrastructure products, whether built on TPU or GPU units, and we will continue to invest strongly to meet this demand."
