Khaberni - The Minister of Social Development, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, affirmed the Kingdom's steadfast commitment to supporting the rights of persons with disabilities and promoting comprehensive social and economic inclusion.
This was stated during her participation on Thursday in the opening of the third round of the "Living Independently for Persons with Disabilities" initiative and the Arab exhibition for productive families, organized by the Arab League in cooperation with the Union of Arab Chambers and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, as part of the activities of the Global Summit for Social Development, in Doha.
Bani Mustafa stated that enhancing inclusion and the independence of persons with disabilities, and empowering productive families are pillars in building a more just, sustainable, and inclusive future. She noted that under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Kingdom has worked on building a national model for social development based on empowerment and participation, as Jordan was one of the first countries to sign and ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, incorporating its principles into national legislation and policies.
She mentioned that Jordan believes that achieving full inclusion is accomplished through policies and building community awareness, and it celebrates the human capabilities of persons with disabilities. She pointed out that the Ministry of Social Development, in cooperation with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, launched a model for transitioning from institutional care to inclusive community services, which is among the most prominent application models in the region. The "Living Independently" initiative, practically embodies the concept of "the right to self-independence" and opens real opportunities for persons with disabilities for dignified living and participation.
In addition to legal efforts, Bani Mustafa pointed out that the Kingdom is increasingly focused on building a productive social economy, linking social protection with economic empowerment. She noted that this exhibition is not just an economic or craft event, but an Arab platform for social and economic integration, embodying the values of joint Arab solidarity.
On a related note, Bani Mustafa participated in a side event during the activities of the Global Summit for Social Development, under the title "Towards Comprehensive Social Inclusion: Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities and the Elimination of Poverty," organized by the Arab League, which highlights efforts to enhance comprehensive social inclusion for persons with disabilities, enabling them to live independently.
She pointed out that the Kingdom has paid great attention to the rights of persons with disabilities, in accordance with the provisions of the Jordanian Constitution, under which the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities No. (20) for the year 2017 was issued, which is the cornerstone of national policies in this field.
She mentioned that, in the framework of international commitment to the rights of persons with disabilities, Jordan organized the third Global Disability Summit in cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany, and issued the Amman-Berlin Declaration on the global inclusion of rights and issues of disability, which represents a pivotal document for promoting a human rights-based approach in development and humanitarian action. She noted that through adopting this declaration, Jordan renews its firm commitment to the rights of persons with disabilities.
It is worth mentioning that two projects from Jordanian families, in the fields of silver manufacturing and information technology, participated in the Arab exhibition for productive families held on the sidelines of the Global Summit for Social Development.
