Khaberni - U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Davy is expected to announce a 10% reduction in air travel capacity at 40 major airports starting Friday if the government shutdown continues, according to Reuters citing sources.

The United States entered the thirty-sixth day of the government shutdown on Wednesday, making it the longest in the country's history, after Republicans and Democrats failed to reach an agreement on budget funding. The shutdown began at the start of October last year, surpassing the previous record set in 2019.

As the shutdown continues, its effects on the everyday lives of Americans are intensifying. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees have stopped working, while others work without pay awaiting a resolution to the crisis.

Social aid, especially the food assistance program that benefits 42 million Americans, has been delayed, before the federal judiciary ordered its continuation.

American airports are experiencing widespread disruptions due to a shortage of air traffic controllers, causing delays and cancellations of many flights, while the parties exchange accusations over the responsibility for the paralysis.

Republicans are calling for an extension of funding at current spending levels, while Democrats insist on increasing healthcare support for low-income families.
