Khaberni - Media reports confirm that Caen, the French club owned by star Kylian Mbappé, is experiencing one of its toughest periods.
RMC Sport reported that the club was forced to implement a comprehensive austerity plan that included cutting expenses and laying off several employees, amid a financial crisis that worsened after the team was relegated to the French third division.
The report clarified: "The new management led by Kylian Mbappé has sought to restore financial balance through a job preservation plan that was officially adopted in recent days, resulting in about sixteen employees from the administrative and commercial staff of the club leaving, in an attempt to reduce operational expenses and alleviate financial burdens."
It continued: "The decision comes at a time when the club is suffering from a significant decline in revenue due to the loss of television broadcast rights and sponsorships after the relegation, making it necessary to reduce the annual budget that was close to fifteen million euros to just ten million."
It added: "The club's management hopes that these measures will contribute to stabilizing the financial situation in preparation for rebuilding the team anew and developing a long-term plan to return to the second division, while preserving the club's prestigious identity, which represents one of the most prominent names in the Normandy region."
It concluded: "Despite the difficulty of the phase, the management sees in this step a beginning to restructure and establish a more solid foundation for the future, hoping that the current economic pressure turns into an opportunity to redesign a more sustainable sports project driven by ambition and realism at the same time."
