Khaberni - Egyptian investigative authorities have referred media personality Maha El-Saghir to the Economic Court, accusing her of violating the intellectual property rights of global artistic paintings. El-Saghir was accused of stealing the designs of the paintings and claiming them as her own, which sparked controversy in the media and art circles after the real owners of the works revealed the incident.
The crisis dates back to July last year, when media personality Maha El-Saghir displayed artistic paintings on a television show, claiming they were her own creation.
A few days after the broadcast of the episode, international painters appeared and accused El-Saghir of stealing their works, among them were Danish artist Lisa Nelson, French artist Cite, and German artist Caroline Windelin.
In light of the stolen paintings crisis, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt decided to ban Maha El-Saghir from media appearances for six months for violating the standards and codes issued by the council.
The council also decided to issue a warning to the staff of the program "With You Mona El-Shazly" for not being accurate in preparing the show, which led to the violation of the standards and codes issued by the council.
Not stopping at this decision, the council announced the referral of the issue concerning Maha El-Saghir's infringement on the intellectual property rights of artistic works owned by others to the public prosecution to take the necessary actions, in accordance with the legal provisions related to intellectual property rights.
It is noted that media personality Maha El-Saghir is the ex-wife of Egyptian star Ahmed El-Sakka.
