OpenAI launches Sora app for Android phones

Khaberni - OpenAI has launched its famous artificial intelligence video generation app Sora on the Android system in the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, following widespread success on iPhones since its launch last September.

Sora topped the "App Store" applications list just one week after its launch, achieving more than one million downloads, and the app is expected to experience a new surge in user numbers with its arrival on the "Google Play" store.

The Android version retains all the features of the original version, including the Cameos feature that allows users to create video clips in which they appear performing various activities based on their personal photo, with the possibility of sharing videos on a page similar to the "TikTok" app to interact with others’ content, according to a report published by "Tech Crunch".

Through this move, OpenAI aims to strengthen its position in the market for short videos to compete with major platforms such as "TikTok", "Instagram", and "Meta Vibes", which have recently entered the field of AI-supported videos.

However, the app has not been without controversy, as it faced criticism after being used to produce offensive "deepfake" clips of historical figures like Martin Luther King, prompting the company to restrict content and enhance usage controls. It also adjusted its policies regarding copyrighted figures to require prior consent from the rights holders.

OpenAI is currently involved in a legal dispute with the American company Cameo over the name of the "Cameos" feature, while planning to launch new editing tools that allow merging clips and creating videos for pets or inanimate objects, in addition to improving the rendering algorithm to customize content according to user preferences.
