Khaberni - The primary court in the city of Fez issued a judgment sentencing a young man known on social media as "Ertugrul" to one year in prison and a fine of 10,000 dirhams, after finding him guilty of charges related to threatening the safety of Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch through a video published on the internet.
The verdict came about three weeks after the arrest of the accused, who appeared in a video he broadcast on his Facebook account, masked and brandishing an iron tool, threatening and warning the Prime Minister, in the context of protests known as "Generation Z", with a satirical style that sparked a wide controversy on digital platforms.
The court ordered the confiscation of the phone and weapon, in addition to ordering the deletion and destruction of all statements and clips included in the accused's phone and personal account, and also required the accused to pay the expenses of the legal proceedings, with the minimum mandatory imprisonment to be enforced if he refuses to pay.
The prosecution also charged "Ertugrul" with several offenses, including possessing a weapon that poses a danger to personal and property safety, insulting a public official during the performance of his duties, and inciting the commission of crimes using electronic means.
