Expectations of Fatahs NonParticipation in the Upcoming Meeting of Palestinian Factions in Cairo

Khaberni - Two Palestinian Liberation Organization officials revealed on Monday that there are consultations to hold a meeting for some Palestinian factions this week in Cairo, although the Fatah movement "will not participate in the meeting that will discuss the formation of a Gaza management committee, following recent disputes about it."

One of the sources told Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper: "Some factions are indeed in Cairo; such as: (Jihad), (The Popular Front), (The Reform Current), and (The Democratic Front). (Hamas) has not arrived yet." He pointed out that Cairo "is organizing the meeting, but no official invitations have been sent out because there are still private consultations, due to Fatah's desire not to participate."

A source close to Fatah stated that any dialogue must be part of the comprehensive national dialogue, as previously held in Egypt and China, explaining that a meeting of a number of factions "does not mean that there is a national consensus that can end the division or the possibility of discussing a comprehensive national strategy, amid attempts by some to separate the Gaza Strip."

He pointed to the comprehensive national meeting with everyone's attendance "is important for implementing that strategy which preserves the major Palestinian issues," expecting it to take place in the upcoming period.
