Khaberni - Despite their remarkable scoring records in the league championship since the start of the current season, Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid's striker, and Erling Haaland, Manchester City's striker are not currently the top scorers in Europe.
Mbappe scored two goals against Valencia last Saturday in the 11th round of the Spanish league, bringing his total to 13 goals and placing him at the top of the league's top scorers, far ahead of his closest pursuer, the Argentine Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, who has seven goals.
Less than 24 hours later, Haaland managed to score twice against Bournemouth in the match that took place at the Etihad Stadium in the 10th round of the English Premier League, reaching the same number of goals as Mbappe, putting him alone at the top of the Premier League scorers.
Haaland leads the scorers in England by a full 7 goals ahead of the quartet of Jean Philippe, a Crystal Palace player, Antoine Semenyo, a Bournemouth player, Igor Thiago, a Brentford player, and Danny Welbeck, a Brighton player with each holding 6 goals.
The Spanish newspaper "Marca" pointed out the presence of players who have scored more than Haaland and Mbappe, each doubling this remarkable tally of goals, but they play in obscure leagues.
Clement Olsen, a player from NSI Runavik of the Faroe Islands, succeeded in scoring 26 goals with his team in the local league.
The player who surpasses Haaland and Mbappe by more than double this tally of goals is the Serbian Darko Limatich, striker of FC RFS (FC RFS) from Latvia, who scored 28 goals.
Despite this significant difference in the number of goals between Limatich, Haaland, and Mbappe, the criteria for winning the Golden Boot Award - awarded annually to the top scorer in the European continental leagues - clearly favor the latter two.
How Points are Calculated in the Golden Boot Competition
A player earns two points for each goal in the top five leagues (English, Spanish, Italian, German, French).
In leagues ranked from 6 to 21 according to the UEFA (including Dutch, Portuguese, Belgian, Czech, Turkish, Greek, Austrian, Polish leagues), a player is awarded 1.5 points per goal, while in leagues ranked from 22 to 55, a player earns one point per goal.
Accordingly, Limatich remains at the top of the leaderboard with 28 points, two points ahead of Mbappe and Haaland, and Olsen, each with 26 points.
Naturally, Mbappe and Haaland have the potential to take over the lead in their next league game, and the competition might narrow down between them for the award in the future, but Limatich will remain on top based on the number of goals scored until further notice.
It is worth mentioning that Mbappe won the European Golden Shoe Award for 2025, after finishing last season as the top scorer of the Spanish league with 31 goals.
