The Telecommunications Authority Jordan Post supports the digital economy with 39 million parcels

Khaberni - A recent report issued by the Jordanian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority revealed significant growth in postal services in the kingdom in recent years, with 39 million parcels recorded in 2024, reflecting the vital role of the sector in supporting the digital economy and local and global e-commerce.

The report noted that the increase in postal parcel volume is largely due to the expansion of e-commerce services, particularly parcels arriving from global platforms, in addition to local market activities in delivering daily orders and purchases.

According to official data, the number of postal service operators in the kingdom reached 197 operators by the end of 2024, including 182 local private postal operators, 14 international operators, and the sole public postal operator "Jordan Post Company".

The authority clarified that the workforce in the sector reached 40,000 employees, while the size of the logistics fleet was 37,000 vehicles and scooters used in delivering parcels, reflecting the development of infrastructure and the ability to handle the increasing demand for postal services.

The report pointed out that the total postal parcels handled in 2024 reached 39 million, compared to lower levels in previous years. Parcels arriving through global online platforms recorded 2 million, compared to 1.7 million parcels in 2023, while outbound parcels remained relatively limited, at about 100,000 parcels in 2023.

The report considered the increase in incoming parcels as reflecting the growing reliance of individuals and companies on global platforms for online shopping, in addition to Jordanian business sectors relying on e-commerce to expand their product reach to international markets.

In the local market, data for 2023 showed significant activity in delivery services, with food delivery orders via digital platforms leading the scene with 22 million shipments, followed by grocery supplies with 3.5 million shipments, and local shopping sites and stores with 2.5 million shipments.

The report confirmed that these figures underline the importance of mail as a key driver of logistical services and digital commerce, highlighting the growing role of local companies in providing fast and effective delivery solutions to meet the increasing demand from citizens. According to "Petra".

The report clarified that the sector faces challenges related to the quick processing of parcels and the development of logistics systems, with a need to enhance human skills and expand the transport fleet to meet the increasing demand.

However, these challenges offer significant investment opportunities in smart postal services and advanced logistics solutions, supporting the growth of the digital economy in the kingdom.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority pointed out the importance of keeping up with technological developments and expanding into digital services, including parcel tracking and improving customer experience, enhancing the sector's competitive ability locally and regionally.

The report concluded that the Jordanian postal sector continues to enhance its vital role in the national economy, by enabling e-commerce, supporting local business activities, and providing extensive job opportunities, making it one of the fundamental pillars for economic growth and digital transformation in the kingdom.
