Khaberni - Jordan's exports of pharmaceutical preparations (human medicines) have grown by 6 percent since the beginning of this year until the end of last August, compared to the same period last year, driven by several factors led by royal support and interest for the sector.
According to the representative of the therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector in the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Dr. Fadi Al-Atrash, the kingdom's medicine exports since the beginning of this year until the end of last August, according to the figures from the Department of Statistics, amounted to 398 million dinars compared to 376 million dinars for the same period of the previous year.
Al-Atrash said that the exports of pharmaceutical preparations have continued their strong performance that began from the beginning of the year, based on many pillars, foremost among them the support and attention that this strategic industry receives from His Majesty King Abdullah II, and his continuous efforts in helping to open new export markets and providing opportunities for companies, recalling his recent visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan which had outcomes in this context.
He added that the kingdom's products from pharmaceutical preparations (human medicines) have entered new export markets, which contributed to increasing its exports along with registering new, distinctive, and innovative categories that meet market needs, in addition to the growth of markets in neighboring countries, especially Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
He pointed out that the reputation and quality of Jordanian medicine have contributed to increasing the sector's exports, as there are demands for its products and categories, in addition to the efforts made by the Public Institution for Food and Drug in preparing Jordanian manufacturing companies and assisting them in applying international standards through "Good Manufacturing Practices," which contributed to enhancing its quality and increasing its competitiveness abroad.
He explained that the human pharmaceutical industry in Jordan represents 85 percent of the total therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector, where it includes today 27 facilities in various regions of the kingdom, with registered capital reaching about 350 million dinars, and it provided 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, of which females constitute 35 percent.
Al-Atrash, who also holds the position of CEO and a member of the board of directors of Oman Pharmaceutical Industries, confirmed that Jordanian human pharmaceutical exports now enter more than 85 markets around the world, led by Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the UAE, Algeria, Yemen, and the United States.
