Khaberni - In a new step confirming the platforms' race towards enhancing the viewing experience, YouTube announced its adoption of artificial intelligence technologies to automatically enhance the quality of low-resolution videos.
The new feature contributes to transforming videos under 1080p into HD quality immediately upon playing, with future plans to support 4K resolution soon, according to GSMArena, a site specialized in technology.
The new feature named "Super Resolution" will currently be available exclusively on TV devices, where its option will appear within the video quality settings menu.
The feature allows users to enjoy clearer viewing, even when watching old or poor-quality clips, while the platform allows content creators the freedom to disable the feature if they choose not to apply it to their videos.
YouTube's updates did not stop at improving resolution only, but also included increasing the maximum size of thumbnails from 2 megabytes to 50 megabytes, which paves the way for more clear images with 4K resolution coming soon.
The platform has also added a feature for interactive previews on the homepage, with a new design for Shows feature, to arrange clips within consecutive playlists that facilitate the experience of continuous viewing.
Additional features focused on TV devices
Among the additions announced by the platform:
- A new contextual search on TV devices, where the channel's videos appear first when searched from its page.
- Smart QR codes that allow viewers to open product pages on their phones directly from the videos.
These consecutive steps reflect YouTube's increasing focus on TV devices, which are currently the fastest-growing platforms in terms of user numbers and viewing duration.
