This honor comes in recognition of his distinguished diplomatic career, shared Arab actions, and in appreciation of his efforts in defending the issues of his Arab nation, with the Palestinian issue at the forefront.
In turn, Secretary-General Aboul Gheit thanked the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for this honor, considering it a pride and honor for him, and for all Egyptian diplomats, and in the Arab League, commending the resilience and wisdom of the president and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
