UN Official Israel Responsible for Any Violations in Gaza

Khaberni - The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, reiterated that the laws of war are very clear regarding the utmost importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing that Israel must comply with its ongoing obligations under international humanitarian law and is responsible for any violations.

Volker, in a press statement on Wednesday, commenting on the Israeli raids on Gaza last night, referred to reports confirming that more than 100 Palestinians were martyred last night in a wave of Israeli airstrikes that primarily targeted residential buildings, tents of displaced persons, and schools across the Gaza Strip, describing them as "shocking".

He said, it is concerning that this massacre "occurred at a time when the long-suffering residents of Gaza started to feel that there was hope for the ongoing wave of violence to recede," urging states, especially those with a special influence, to do everything in their power to ensure compliance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
