Message from Barghoutis Son to Trump What Did He Ask

Khaberni - Arab Barghouti, the son of the imprisoned Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti, urged the American President Donald Trump to "seize the opportunity" provided by the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and to pressure Israel to release his father, considering that his father is the only one, in his view, capable of uniting the Palestinians.

Marwan Barghouti, known to his followers as the "Mandela of Palestine", is regarded as one of the architects of the second Palestinian intifada at the start of the second millennium and is often mentioned as a potential successor to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. He is currently 66 years old.

An Israeli court sentenced him in June 2004 to five life sentences after convicting him of involvement in four attacks against Israelis that resulted in the deaths of five people during the intifada.

Arab Barghouti said in an interview with the Agence France-Presse in the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, that his father "is capable and has a proven track record that qualifies him to unify the Palestinian people."

From the headquarters of a campaign that calls for his father's release, he added, "A person like him represents a significant opportunity for the international community to prove its seriousness in supporting the two-state solution."
