Highest toll in 30 years Measles sweeps through America

Khaberni - The United States is witnessing a record increase in measles cases, the highest since 1992, with 1618 cases and 3 deaths recorded during the year 2025.

The American health authorities announced a record increase in measles cases, the highest since 1992, according to local media. Official data clarified that the United States has so far recorded 1618 measles infections and 3 deaths since the beginning of the current year 2025, which is the highest rate in more than three decades.

Details of the infections
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that among these cases, 1595 infections were recorded in 42 local jurisdictions, along with 23 infections among international visitors to the United States. This total number of infections is the highest since 1992, when 2126 measles infections were detected nationwide.

The data indicated that 198 of the total cases, which represents 12%, required hospitalization, including 95 children under the age of five. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also confirmed that 92% of the cases registered this year were for people who were either not vaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown.

Warnings of the disease's return
Public health experts have said that these numbers represent a sharp return of measles in the United States, and they emphasize the need to adhere to vaccination programs to prevent the spread of the infection.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease transmitted through respiratory droplets or direct contact with an infected person. Its common complications include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat, and red eyes. Vaccination can prevent infection.

Measles primarily affects the respiratory system before spreading to the rest of the body, and its symptoms appear as an increase in temperature, cough, runny nose, and a rash that covers the entire skin.
