A Swedish Court Identifies Suspect in the Murder of Salwan Momika Known for Burning the Quran

Khaberni - The Sodertalje court has issued a decision to detain the Syrian young man Bashar Zakoor (24 years old) in absentia, on suspicion of killing the Iraqi Salwan Momika, who became famous for burning copies of the Quran in Sweden. The authorities believe that Zakoor has fled the country, and they have begun preparations to issue an international arrest warrant against him. Meanwhile, Zakoor's brother has denied the charges against him.

Momika was killed in his home in the city of Sodertalje on January 29 during a live broadcast on the TikTok app, in an incident that garnered widespread attention and was considered a criminal mystery after several suspects were released without charges. However, investigations have recently made progress, after Zakoor was identified as the main suspect in the case.

This is how Salwan Momika was killed
The public prosecutor Rasmus Oman said that investigations show that the suspect snuck in from the entrance of a nearby building and climbed to the roof, then descended to the balcony of Momika's home in the Hovsho area of Sodertalje.

He waited for Salwan to go out for a smoke before he shot him on the evening of January 29.

It is believed that Zakoor fled the scene on a stolen bike and then spent the night in a car. Investigations indicate that the suspect left Sweden the following day, heading abroad, as reported by several media outlets.

Escaped to Denmark.. and may be in Syria
According to Oman, the escape route is known up to the city of Copenhagen, but he added that the current whereabouts of the suspect are uncertain.

He said: “My estimation is that he headed to his home country, Syria, and there is a high possibility that he is still there”, confirming that this remains “an educated guess” and not a confirmed information.

Young man's brother denies: Misleading information
The brother of the young Bashar Zakoor has denied the charges against him, confirming that he is innocent and there are no clear evidence against him.

He said in a text message to Dagens Nyheter (DN): “There is no clear evidence against my brother, and I am completely confident that he has not committed what he is accused of. The information circulated is incorrect and misleading”.
