In an interview with the British "Time" magazine, Trump confirmed that he warned Netanyahu about continuing to fight on a large scale, saying that engaging in an "open war" would have caused Israel to face broad international isolation. He added that his attempt was aimed at preventing an escalation that would last for many years, and that his move contributed to gathering later international efforts.
The American President referred to an incident he described as a "tactical mistake" related to Qatar, and pointed out that this incident, according to him, contributed to the unification of international stances and pushed towards corrective measures. Trump questioned, "Does this make sense? If that incident had not happened, we might not be talking about this topic at all today."
In response to a question about how he managed to make Netanyahu listen to his advice, Trump said that "the world" and international pressure were the decisive factor that stopped further escalation, and that he clearly saw the consequences of continuing operations on Israel's image and its international relations.
Trump emphasized that retrieving the Israeli captives was a top priority, and that diplomatic and political efforts led to the release of a significant percentage of them all at once, indicating that joint movements and measures contributed to accelerating the delivery of batches of captives.
In his interview, Trump also addressed the Iran file, considering that the previous American policies aimed at Tehran's capabilities had weakened its regional influence, and that this contributed to creating a regional climate more conducive to peace efforts.
He referred to the military and diplomatic measures, including what he described as strikes on Iranian facilities or capabilities and operations targeting leaders, which he said reduced the "threat" posed by Tehran.
It is noted that the actual damage assessments of the Iranian nuclear program were the subject of varied evaluations and reviews by intelligence and international sources.
Trump responded to a question about the possibility of carrying out threats related to further military escalation if Hamas violated the agreements, by saying that "this would lead to a big problem," warning against taking broad military actions if the understandings were not respected, and at the same time noting the ongoing monitoring of armed groups "that turned into gangs" requiring more decisive control.
