Khaberni - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi conducted with Palestinian Deputy President Hussein Al-Sheikh, today, talks involving the General Intelligence Director Major General Ahmad Hasni, and the Director of Palestinian Intelligence Majed Faraj, focusing on the efforts to solidify the ceasefire in Gaza, the introduction of humanitarian aid into the region, and the launch of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
Safadi and Al-Sheikh emphasized during the meeting the importance of uniting all efforts to successfully accomplish the first phase of the agreement and transitioning to its second phase, ultimately leading to the establishment of a real political horizon to achieve a fair peace based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.
They stressed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories where an independent and sovereign Palestinian state should be established on the basis of the two-state solution and that all transitional arrangements must reflect and affirm this reality.
Both sides also renewed their appreciation for the efforts of President Donald Trump and his decisive role in accomplishing the agreement, his proposal to end the war, rebuild Gaza, prevent the displacement of the Palestinian people, accelerate the peace process, and his declaration that he would not allow the annexation of the West Bank. Safadi and Al-Sheikh also renewed their appreciation for the major role of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar in accomplishing the agreement.
Safadi and Al-Sheikh condemned the Israeli Knesset’s preliminary approval of two legislative bills, one targeting the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and the other aiming to legalize Israeli sovereignty over one of the illegal colonial settlements.
They welcomed the advisory opinion issued unanimously today by the International Court of Justice, insisting on the necessity for Israel, as the occupying power, to comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law, and to agree and facilitate aid and relief programs provided to the population in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Safadi and Al-Sheikh affirmed their continued work with brothers and partners to achieve just and comprehensive peace, which entails ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty based on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legality and the Arab Peace Initiative.
