Khaberni - Despite medical advancements, heart diseases remain the main cause of death globally, and an unhealthy lifestyle, obesity, smoking, and following an unbalanced diet can contribute to its increase.
According to the "Times of India" website, American cardiologist Dr. Sanjay Bhojraj warns about five everyday foods that may silently harm the heart:
Seed oils
Seed oils such as corn, soybean, sunflower, and canola contain high levels of omega-6 fatty acids; causing oxidative stress, inflammation, and weakening the arterial walls, which increases the risk of them hardening and heart attacks.
Sugar-free products
These products may contain artificial sweeteners that affect gut bacteria and insulin function; increasing inflammation and insulin resistance, and raising the risk of heart disease. Additionally, the lack of fiber in them prompts more food consumption.
Flavored yogurt
The added sugars and artificial flavors in flavored yogurt raise blood pressure and triglycerides, leading to weight gain, while the colors and preservatives increase inflammation; straining the heart.
Protein bars
Despite their popularity, these bars often contain processed ingredients and sugars and seed oils; increasing oxidative stress and inflammation. It is advisable to choose natural bars free of seed oils and to check the nutritional label.
Vegetable chips
They contain harmful fats and high salt, and the frying process produces compounds that damage the arteries. To reduce risks, it is preferable to consume vegetables raw, steamed, or baked rather than processed snacks.
Dr. Bhojraj emphasizes that understanding these risks and choosing healthy alternatives can protect the heart and maintain the integrity of the blood vessels.
