Khaberni - A 10-year-old child caused a state of panic in the Turkish city of Izmir after he found an old, unexploded grenade in a field and thought it was a toy, taking it to his father without realizing its danger.
Turkish media reported that the incident took place in the "Teira" area of Izmir province, where the child was playing in an agricultural land owned by his family, when he found a strange metallic object with its safety pin still intact.
After picking it up with his hands, he headed to his father's shop located on "Jalal Bayar Boulevard" to show him what he had found, and the father quickly realized that what his son was carrying was a real grenade, and promptly notified the emergency teams.
Immediately, police and fire forces arrived and completely cordoned off the area with security tape, and the entrance of the street was closed as a precaution. A team of bomb disposal experts from the city of Izmir arrived at the site and managed to safely neutralize the old bomb.
Authorities said that the grenade likely dates back to an earlier period and may have been from old military remnants, confirming that an investigation has been opened to determine its source and how it ended up in the field.
