Khaberni - The administration of the Louvre Museum announced the value of the stolen jewelry in the recent break-in, while French authorities continue to pursue the perpetrators and enhance museum security.
In an official statement, the Chief Prosecutor of the French capital, Laure Bico, reported that the losses resulting from the theft incident that took place on the morning of Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the famous Louvre Museum in Paris, were estimated at approximately 88 million euros, according to the preliminary assessment provided by the museum's curator.
Bico added, in an interview with French station RTL, that the amount is very large financially but does not match the historical damage inflicted by the incident on the displayed jewelry collection.
Bico pointed out that the perpetrators, even if they decided to commit what she described as a "very bad idea," namely melting the stolen jewelry, would not obtain a value close to their true worth, given their significant historical and symbolic value.
Four people had broken into the museum during daylight, using a crane to smash a window on one of the upper floors, and managed to access a display hall containing jewelry from the French royal era, before fleeing the scene on motorcycles.
The operation, which took place in broad daylight, was quick and well-coordinated, prompting several media outlets to describe it as the "heist of the century."
Following the incident, French government officials confirmed on Monday, October 20, that Paris would reconsider the protection procedures for all cultural sites across the country, prepared to implement additional security measures if necessary, including enhancing surveillance and expanding security coordination around museums and major cultural institutions.
The Louvre Museum, one of the most famous cultural landmarks in the world, remained closed to visitors throughout Monday, after being shut down on Sunday morning immediately following the theft, leading to initial measures that included reviewing protection systems and investigating security vulnerabilities that enabled the perpetrators to carry out the operation.
