Khaberni - A widespread uproar in Turkey after reports of the star Dilan Bulat's suicide attempt on a bridge in Istanbul, amidst conflicting official and media narratives.
Social media platforms in Turkey saw a controversy after local press reports circulated that the Turkish star Dilan Bulat attempted suicide from a bridge in Istanbul, before she was rescued at the last moment. Although Bulat denied any intention of committing suicide, the details of the incident that were published raised doubts among some followers, while others considered the matter settled after her official statements, seeing no need for further interpretation following her direct talk.
Story by journalist Adam Metan
Turkish journalist Adam Metan published details of the incident on the “X” platform, saying: “Dilan Bulat left her home determined to commit suicide, and while she was trying to climb over the barrier of the Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror bridge to jump off, the police and her husband Engin Bulat arrived, who intervened to persuade her to reconsider her decision and leave the bridge.”
In response to these allegations, Dilan Bulat denied what the media circulated, confirming in her statement to the police that what happened was not related to a suicide attempt. She said: “On the afternoon of Saturday, October 18, I suddenly felt unwell while driving at the northern exit of the Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror bridge. I experienced heart palpitations and a panic episode, so I pulled the car to the right and turned on the hazard lights.”
She added: “I informed my husband of my location and waited for him to arrive, then the police teams came. My stopping was not due to an attempt to commit suicide as rumored, but rather a sudden feeling of discomfort, and I did not want to cause a traffic accident.”
Bulat confirmed that she will not file any complaint against the journalist Metan, noting that he “caused an unwarranted media uproar due to a misunderstanding of what happened.”
Statement from her lawyer after the incident
For his part, Sevinç Horuz, the lawyer representing Dilan Bulat, made clearer statements indicating that her husband Engin Bulat contacted him after the incident, confirming that Dilan felt unwell while driving and pulled her car to the side of the road at the bridge exit. He added: “No one knows whether she got out of the car or not, but the allegations about a suicide attempt are completely false.”
Previous accusations and drug use
This incident comes after a series of media crises that Dilan Bulat recently faced, most notably being accused of drug use after undergoing blood tests as part of a wide campaign that included a number of Turkish celebrities. Bulat then responded saying: “The only thing that might show up in my blood or hair is prescription medication. I swear by my children and my deceased mother and father, I have never seen drugs in my life.”
She added: “I repeated that during my hair cutting and said that I take normal medication for health reasons, yet they said it shows results indicating another drug.”
In a list of accused celebrities
Dilan Bulat's name was mentioned among a list of Turkish celebrities allegedly involved in drug use cases, following sudden raids and analysis conducted by the authorities in Turkey over the recent weeks.
In her most recent post on “Instagram” dated October 8, Bulat wrote: “What happened? And why did it happen? We don’t know why the gendarmerie came to our house at seven in the morning. It’s been less than two weeks since the results of the drug test came out clean, yet we were accused again in a different case and raided dawn.”
She added: “Human dignity, honor, and reputation are very precious, and all have been damaged. Every time we try to prove our innocence. We are completely confident in our innocence, and our heads are held high, and if the state knows something, then our neck is weaker than a strand of hair.”
She continued: “We are very sad. Please, when the new test results come out, publish them as loudly as they published the previous news. My children’s mental health has been affected by such situations, and I am a mother trying to hold on to life. One of my children is very young, and the other is a teenager, and we are suffering a lot. Please show some empathy. Injustice is very painful, and proving innocence is much harder.”
Bulat concluded her message saying: “We had nothing to do with these accusations at all, and we were not present anywhere related to them, yet we were detained for 12 hours and taken from our home, and this is a painful and detrimental matter to our reputation. All love and thanks to those who support us and believe in us. We will patiently wait for the results of the new analyses. Ironically, today I intended to hold a condolence meeting at my home on the 24th anniversary of my mother’s passing, but what is written is written. I seek justice for the psychological state of my children.”
