Khaberni - Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson for the Independent Election Commission, said that five political parties have announced their merger so far, with more mergers expected in the coming phase.
Abu Zeid clarified on Saturday that the "Management and Progress" parties have merged under a new name, "Initiative Party".
Abu Zeid pointed out that there are currently 35 political parties in Jordan.
He emphasized that the decisions to merge are exclusively up to the political parties themselves, while the role of the Independent Election Commission is limited to verifying that the merger procedures comply with the provisions of the law.
Abu Zeid confirmed that the Commission is reviewing 15 drafts of the basic systems of the parties, in the context of reviewing them post-election, aiming to achieve good governance standards within the parties.
