Hussein Fahmy Reveals the Truth About the Competition Between the Cairo and El Gouna Festivals

Khaberni - Actor Hussein Fahmy, President of the Cairo International Film Festival, reveals the truth about the competition between the "Cairo" and "El Gouna" festivals over the past years, noting the cooperation between the two festivals, and criticizes those who focus the festivals on dresses and appearances, as well as his comments on the public's criticism of the frequent attendance of artists at film festivals.

Hussein Fahmy, on the sidelines of his attendance at the eighth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, said: "Something beautiful is happening in El Gouna, and it’s great that we have festivals in Cairo, El Gouna, Aswan, and various other provinces."

He continued: "The festival is not just about watching the stars and the dresses; we spend 10 days watching films from different parts of the world, diverse cultures, directors, directors of photography, and new methods in presenting the language of cinema. These stars are like the crème Chantilly on top of the cake, and France has 500 festivals."

Hussein Fahmy: There is cooperation between "Cairo" and "El Gouna" and there is no competition

About the competition between the "Cairo" and "El Gouna" festivals, Hussein Fahmy added: "There is very significant cooperation between the El Gouna Film Festival and the Cairo International Film Festival, and it’s enough to say that the Egyptian flag was raised at the Cannes Film Festival, there is no competition between us as much as there is cooperation, and we care about the success of the El Gouna Film Festival, not just as a festival but as filmmakers."

El Gouna Film Festival launched under the slogan "Cinema for Humanity" and it is considered a leading artistic platform in the Middle East, promoting dialogue between cultures through filmmaking, and attracting strong global support.

This year's edition includes more than 80 exceptional films, ranging from feature-length to documentary and short films, all selected for their artistic value, and the festival will present awards totaling over 230,000 US dollars.

In addition to special recognition awards such as the Audience Award for Cinema for Humanity and the Green Star el Gouna Award, which highlight films that advocate humanitarian issues and environmental awareness.
