Khaberni - Recent research shows that drinking black tea daily not only provides warmth and comfort, but also contributes to heart protection and improved vascular health.
Studies have shown that black tea helps lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, as well as regulate blood sugar levels and prevent type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Tim Bond, a tea scientist from the Tea Advisory Panel, explained: "The heart health benefits of tea have been known for years, and recent scientific research has confirmed its importance for heart health. A study published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition highlights the tea’s rich polyphenol content, emphasizing the clear benefits of drinking tea daily."
Dr. Bond noted that the flavan-3-ol polyphenolic compounds, called "flavan-3-ols," play a significant role in the positive effect of tea on blood pressure, heart health, and the risk of stroke and diabetes. Studies have indicated that these compounds may reduce the risk of chronic diseases by up to 19%, and reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases by 13%.
He added: "The American Nutrition Association has recommended consuming 400-600 mg daily of 'flavan-3-ols' to improve heart health, which is equivalent to four cups of tea daily."
Studies suggest that regular tea drinking—from one to four cups daily—contributes to lowering blood pressure and improving long-term vascular function. The flavonoid content in black tea reduces harmful cholesterol levels, helps regulate blood glucose levels, and manages insulin, which is crucial for diabetes and prediabetes patients.
Dr. Bond emphasized that the ideal goal is to consume 3-4 cups of tea daily to obtain 400-600 mg of multi-phenolic flavanol compounds, which help reduce inflammation and relieve stress in the body, including the heart and blood vessels, making tea a beneficial daily beverage for overall health.
