Khaberni - The total handling movement by land in the second quarter of this year increased by 37.7% compared to the second quarter of last year, reaching 10,499,979 tons, according to data from the Ministry of Transport.
According to the Transport Sector Performance Indicators Report for the second quarter of 2025, issued by the Ministry, the total handling movement by land in the second quarter increased by 37.4% compared to the first quarter of the same year according to Al Mamlaka Channel.
The term "land handling" refers to the total quantities of goods transported via trucks through the land border crossings, including imported goods, exported goods, and transit goods that pass through the territory of the kingdom without entering the local market.
The report indicated a decrease in the volume of imported goods by land by 2.2% in the second quarter of this year compared to the second quarter of last year, reaching 3,947,222 tons, while it increased compared to the first quarter of this year by 26.1%.
It explained that the volume of transit goods increased compared to the second quarter of last year by 18.5% to reach 2,339,758 tons, and it also increased compared to the first quarter of this year by 8.1%.
The report revealed that the volume of goods exported by land increased by 82.5% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period of last year, reaching 6,552,757 tons, and it also increased compared to the first quarter of the year by 95.1%.
It detailed that the movement of trucks entering through all border centers increased by 23.4% compared to the second quarter of last year, and by 6.7% compared to the first quarter of this year, totaling 155,949 trucks.
The movement of trucks exiting through the border centers increased by 28.8% compared to the second quarter of last year, and by 14.5% compared to the first quarter of this year, totaling 158,602 trucks.
Regarding the development of performance indicators between the second quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2025 for the road freight transport sector, the report explained an increase in the number of container transport companies by 2.6% to reach 120 companies, and the number of freight transport companies increased by 5.4% to reach 156 companies; meanwhile, the number of car transport companies remained stable at 9 companies.
The number of heavy-lift transport companies decreased by 10% to become 9 companies in the same period, while the number of refrigerated transport companies increased by 33.3% to reach 12 companies, and the number of sheep and livestock transport companies increased by 25% to reach 5 companies.
According to the report, the number of companies transporting vegetable oils remained unchanged at 3 companies, as did the number of crude oil transport companies at 30 companies, while the number of ready-mix concrete transport companies increased by 33.3% to reach 4 companies.
