Khaberni - A horrific crime shook the town of Silopi in Şırnak Province, southeastern Turkey, after a man proceeded to stab his pregnant wife, causing her severe injuries and the death of her fetus inside her womb.
According to local media reports, the Iraqi national woman, in her second decade of life, was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition, while the death of her fetus, who was in its sixth month, was confirmed.
The incident occurred inside one of the commercial stores in the town, close to the Turkish-Iraqi border, where the husband attacked his wife and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the crime scene.
After a chase that lasted for hours, the police were able to locate him using a drone, and they arrested him after he tried to hide in a nearby area.
So far, the nationality of the husband has not been disclosed. Silopi is located in a border area that experiences a mix of populations and family ties between citizens from Turkey and Iraq, as well as intermarriages between the two.
The motives behind the crime are still unclear, but the incident has sparked a wide wave of outrage in the small town, which has a population of only a few thousand, amid calls for the maximum penalties for the perpetrator.
