Khaberni - Belgian Romelu Lukaku, striker for Italian club Napoli, hinted at being subjected to extortion along with his brother Jordan regarding the body of their father, who died late last month.
Lukaku (32 years old) stated in a post shared on his official Instagram account that he was deprived of bidding farewell to his father's body and holding his funeral in Belgium.
Lukaku wrote under a post titled "From me and my brother": "As you know, we were planning to hold the funeral last Friday, but due to some decisions made in Kinshasa (capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo), the funeral will take place there."
He added, "Our father died on September 28, 2025. We, as his sons, did everything we could to bring his body back to Europe, but we felt we were being extorted by some people. If our father were with us today, he would not accept this."
Lukaku continued, "We live with a pain that tears our hearts apart, that we cannot bury our father as he deserves. But some people did not want this, now we understand why our father kept us away from many people, may God have mercy on you, Dad."
Lukaku did not reveal more details about the circumstances or the identity of the people he accused of holding his father's body.
Romelu had announced the death of his father more than two weeks ago, where he posted a photo of them together when he was a child and commented, "Thank you for what you taught me, I will always be grateful to you, life after you will not be the same."
He added, "You provided me with protection and guidance like no one else could. Pain and tears are flowing heavily, but God will give me the strength to continue anew."
Roger Lukaku, who formerly represented the national team of Zaire (currently the Democratic Republic of the Congo), died at the age of 58.
It is worth mentioning that Roger Lukaku began his soccer career at local club Vita Club, then moved to Africa Sports of Ivory Coast, before turning professional in Europe in 1990.
Roger played for several Belgian clubs including Boom, Seraing Germinal, Ekeren, Mechelen, and Oostende, and also had a short stint in Turkey with Gençlerbirliği.
