Khaberni - Football in Italy is experiencing one of its most difficult historical moments, following the huge shock represented by the Italian national team's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina on penalties, in a result described within sports circles as catastrophic by all standards.
The Italian Sky network reported that this elimination has sparked a state of anger and concern within the Italian football system, especially as it represents a continuation of failures in recent years, prompting officials to urgently move to explore the future of the sport in the country.
The network clarified: "According to developments, an emergency meeting was called that includes leaders of the sport at various levels, including coaches and representatives of players' unions, in an attempt to create a new roadmap that would restore the soccer's status in Italy".
It added: "Data indicates that the ongoing discussions are not limited to a limited technical evaluation, but are heading towards a comprehensive restructuring of the football system, a step that might include radical changes within the Italian Football Federation, with expectations of removing a number of prominent leaders, at the top of which is the president of the federation, in what is described as a broad 'cleaning' administrative process".
In this context, the Italian Minister of Sports, Andrea Abodi, confirmed that the current situation requires quick and decisive intervention, noting that what happened cannot be considered just a minor stumble, but the result of accumulations that call for a comprehensive review of all elements of the system, from management to talent development and infrastructure.
