Israeli Court Extends Detention of Dr Hossam Abu Safia by 6 Months

Khaberni - Media sources reported that an Israeli court has extended the detention of Kamal Adwan Hospital Director Dr. Hossam Abu Safia for an additional 6 months.

Abu Safia was arrested on December 27, 2024, following an Israeli military raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, during which he was taken under armed threat after the hospital was destroyed and rendered out of service.

Earlier, the Israeli "Physicians for Human Rights" association warned of a serious deterioration in Dr. Hossam Abu Safia's health condition.

The association stated that its lawyers visited Abu Safia in the Ofer Prison, run by the occupation, and reviewed his detention conditions, adding that they observed a serious deterioration in Abu Safia's health condition.

The association noted that he had lost about 25 kilograms of his weight, was suffering from scabies without receiving proper medical treatment, and mentioned that he had not been presented before any judge since March of the previous year, had not undergone any investigation, or been informed of the reason for his arrest.

The association also confirmed that he was subjected to violence and ill-treatment, and was deprived of medical examinations despite suffering from prior heart problems and high blood pressure.
