Khaberni - The annual ceremony held by the continental federation, on Thursday in Riyadh, witnessed a shocking act by the UAE Football Federation.
The UAE federation won the Asian Federation President’s Award for Promising Talents (Gold Category), but the representative of the UAE federation refused to go on stage to receive the award.
While no comments were issued by either the Asian or UAE federations, media reports indicated that this act came as a protest against the events and the manner in which the World Cup playoffs were held, which were organized in a single-host system. The UAE's group matches were held in Qatar’s capital, Doha, where their national team succeeded in qualifying for the World Cup at the expense of the Emirates.
