Khaberni - Tom Fletcher, the head of the UN's humanitarian affairs, called for the opening of more passages allowing aid into the Gaza Strip and the implementation of a genuine practical approach to removing the remaining obstacles.
In a press statement today, Wednesday, he said, "Throughout this crisis, we have emphasized that withholding aid from civilians is not a bargaining chip, and that facilitating relief access is a legal obligation."
Fletcher noted that humanitarian teams managed at the beginning of the week to begin expanding the scope of aid after months of frustration and denial, and that supplies of food, medicine, fuel, water, cooking gas, and tents have reached those in need, but he pointed to more setbacks in implementation yesterday.
Fletcher referred to the sixty-day plan drawn up by the United Nations to increase life-saving aid. He stated that he remains in the region to coordinate the implementation of this plan.
