Khaberni - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak revealed that the talks between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ahmad Al-Shar' at the Kremlin covered various aspects, including humanitarian, energy, transport, health, and tourism sectors.
Novak said in his remarks to journalists: "Syria needs to rebuild its infrastructure, and Russia is capable of providing support in this field."
He explained that Moscow and Damascus agreed to hold a meeting of a joint international governmental committee in the near future.
He noted that the issues of humanitarian supplies to Syria were discussed during the talks between Presidents Putin and Al-Shar’ at the Kremlin.
Novak also revealed that both sides discussed cooperation in multiple areas, from energy and transportation to the development of the tourism sector and health care, in addition to cooperation in cultural and humanitarian fields, pointing out that Damascus expressed interest in acquiring Russian wheat and medicines.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that these files will be discussed in more detail, adding: "We are prepared to provide support and participate in the reconstruction process in Syria."
Novak's statements followed the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar', which were held on Wednesday at the Kremlin and lasted for more than two and a half hours.
Putin and Al-Shar' held closed talks with the participation of a limited number of officials. The Russian President noted that relations between Russia and Syria have always been very friendly.
Thereafter, the Russian-Syrian talks continued at a working breakfast table at the Kremlin, with delegations from both countries participating.
During his meeting with Al-Shar', President Putin praised the Russian-Syrian relations, stating that the two countries have had special ties for decades.
For his part, the Syrian President at the beginning of his meeting with President Putin affirmed that Syria "will try to reset its relations with Russia," and that the most important issue now is stability in the country and the region.
The Syrian President had arrived in Moscow on an official visit on Wednesday, heading a delegation on his first visit of this kind since he took power in Syria in December last year.
Al-Shar' was accompanied during his visit by his Foreign Minister As'ad Al-Sheibani, Defense Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra, and the Secretary-General of the Presidency Maher Al-Shar'.
