Khaberni - Typically, clipped nail remnants are thrown away as disgusting waste, but according to traditional Chinese medicine, they are valuable ingredients in mixtures used to treat conditions like bloating in children and tonsillitis.
According to "Kankan News" agency; companies producing traditional Chinese medicine buy these nail remnants from schools and villages, then wash them thoroughly before drying and grinding them into a fine powder mixed in various medical products.
Since adults only grow about 100 grams of nails annually on average, collecting enough to meet the demand is a difficult task and the price is relatively high.
The agency recently reported that a woman was selling her nail clippings online for 150 yuan ($21) per kilogram. She had been collecting them since childhood and decided to make some money from them.
The use of human nails in traditional Chinese medicine has slowed down since the 1960s, when the increasing popularity of nail polish began contaminating "the merchandise." Over time, other components giving similar effects have been discovered, but fingernails have not completely disappeared.
According to media reports; this does not apply to toenails, as they are not acceptable.
