Khaberni - The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced today, Tuesday, from the heart of the governmental operations room in Ramallah, the results of the general secondary examination for Gaza students, born in 2006, where about 26,000 male/female students from various districts of the sector participated in the exam.
This was stated during a press conference held by Minister of Education and Higher Education Amjad Barham, in the presence of the Minister of Social Development, Samah Hamd, the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Palestine, Essam Al-Badour, the President of the Islamic Sciences University Jaafar Al-Fanatseh, the Undersecretary of Education Nafe' Assaf, representatives from the educational family, members of the operations room, partner institutions, and journalists.
Barham said, "For the first time in the history of the ministry, the general secondary examination was conducted electronically, which doubled the size of the challenges that included internet disruptions, displacement, hunger, lack of electricity, and some students losing their families. Yet, the students demonstrated that they are up to the challenge by persevering and overcoming these obstacles, proving that the impossible is not Palestinian."
He continued: "Today, we announce our readiness to continue what we had started taking steps towards, stressing the need for a field survey to realistically assess the conditions of schools, the situation of school buildings, gathering places, and teacher conditions, and we are ready to redesign our interventions in the context of continuing our commitment to rescue the educational journey of Gaza’s students in schools and universities."
He added: "Today we announce the results of the general secondary examination for those born in 2006, and we continue to hold the exam electronically for those born in 2007 with a participation of about 31,000 students, and we continue the preparations to hold the third session of the regular Tawjihi exam for Gaza students in the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt and in 22 other countries starting from the twenty-fourth of next month, all these steps within the framework of our commitment to the directives of Mr. President, the prime minister, and the government to provide the utmost possible support for Gaza students."
He stated, "We will not announce any specific success rate today, but I assure that the rate exceeds expectations, and that the top ten students in both the scientific and literary streams and the tops of other streams will receive President Mahmoud Abbas’s scholarships, with more scholarships being made available to Gaza students."
On his part, Al-Fanatseh emphasized the importance of this event, which was achieved through will, perseverance, and diligent student efforts of Gaza, announcing 3000 free scholarships for bachelor’s students, and extending congratulations to the families of the students on their children’s success and excellence.
At the end of the conference, the Director General of Examinations, Mohammad Masalma, announced the top ten results, naming this cohort (The Phoenix Group) in a message that from the rubble hope emerges, ambition is renewed, and Gaza students begin anew.
For two consecutive years of war, Gaza sector students were deprived of completing their general secondary education, as the ferocity of the aggression prevented holding the Tawjihi exam for two successive years for the sector’s students.
