Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Dr. Tahreer Al-Qaq, confirmed that the commission is not currently studying any amendments to electricity prices, denying any intent or direction to raise the tariff applied to electric vehicle charging.
Al-Qaq stated in a statement that the commission is the only body legally authorized to determine the electric tariff, noting that no decisions or new studies concerning price changes have been issued at this stage.
She explained that the commission's strategy focuses on stabilizing prices and providing a variety of alternatives for citizens, whether through traditional fuel or electricity at competitive prices, noting that there is a future direction to include natural gas within the national energy system as an additional option that supports sustainability.
Al-Qaq added that the tariff structure approved in 2020 included the implementation of a "time-linked tariff" system for the electric vehicle charging sector, which has allowed citizens to benefit from lower prices during off-peak hours compared to the official tariff.
Al-Qaq emphasized that the commission's work aims to provide stable, effective, and fairly priced electric service, while promoting investments in the energy sector and supporting environmentally friendly technologies that contribute to reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainable development.
