Khaberni - The state of Massachusetts witnessed an unusual and tragic accident after a skydiver named Robert Zabo (62 years old) died following a collision with another skydiver during a group jump over the city of Orange, according to the "New York Post".
According to statements by James Young, the head of the Fire Department in Orange, the accident occurred on October 4 during a jump from a plane belonging to "Jumptown Skydiving", a company specializing in organizing skydiving trips.
Although his parachute was functioning efficiently and he managed to land on the airport grounds, he sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Worcester, where he died three days later from his injuries.
Skydiver Dies After Mid-Air Collision With Other Skydiver
The organizing company confirmed in an official statement that "the injured skydiver landed his parachute completely and effectively," noting that investigations are still ongoing in cooperation with the Office of the District Attorney for Northwestern, while forensic medicine has not yet determined the official cause of death, and authorities clarified that the other skydiver was not harmed.
It is worth mentioning that this incident is the second fatal accident linked to "Jumptown" in less than ten years, as Alexis Zayas (27 years old) died in 2018 after colliding with a stable during a faulty landing, and the company also witnessed a similar accident in 2022 when another skydiver was injured after his parachute malfunctioned and he fell onto a building.
Aviation experts confirm that such accidents are rare despite the sport's risks, pointing out that the investigation will include reviewing the details of the jump, weather conditions, and coordination among the jumpers to determine the precise cause behind the fatal collision.
