Khaberni - The European Broadcasting Union announced the cancellation of the vote on excluding Israel from participating in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, and the postponement of the decision in light of the ceasefire in the Middle East.

Reuters quoted a union statement that Eurovision organizers will not hold an online meeting in November to vote on Israel's participation in light of "recent developments" in the Middle East.

The statement also indicated that the discussion of the issue will be moved from November to December, when the board of the European Broadcasting Union holds its annual general meeting.

It is worth mentioning that "Eurovision" is an international music competition held under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union. In 2025, the events took place in Basel, Switzerland, and the Austrian singer Johannes Becht won with the song "Wasted Love", with the Israeli actress Yuval Raphael finishing second in the contest.

It should be noted that Russia has not participated in "Eurovision" since 2022. During the years of its participation, this country was repeatedly among the favorites, and won in 2008 with the song "Believe" performed by Dima Bilan.

The decision to postpone comes at a time when the region is experiencing political developments, as Hamas recently released a group of prisoners, while Israel released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners as part of a ceasefire agreement.
