Why is the FIFA President in Sharm elSheikh

Khaberni - Among heads of state and governments, British Sky News reported the presence of an unexpected figure at the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit like FIFA President Gianni Infantino, raising questions.

According to the report, the Swiss-Italian head of the football authority strengthened his relationship with Donald Trump; during his first presidential term in 2020, Infantino was invited to the White House to attend a ceremony signing the Abraham Accords.

Infantino faced pressure to make more efforts to use football's stance to end the war between Israel and Hamas, but he said that sport cannot solve geopolitical problems, and there was increasing uproar in European football to suspend the participation of Israeli teams.

However, the push for voting collapsed after Sky News revealed that Trump's administration would intervene to stop the ban of Israel from football, peace talks gained momentum, and before accepting the invitation to visit Egypt, there was a late intervention from Infantino last week to press for his friend to win the Nobel Prize.

Infantino posted on Instagram: "President Donald Trump certainly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his decisive actions."

The report indicated that few non-Americans have such closeness to the president or frequent the White House to this extent, and added that the World Cup is there even before the 2026 tournament starts, it has been delivered by hand and Infantino said the edition is "for winners only... and since you are a winner, you can also win," and now, Infantino proposing a peace match between Israel and Palestine is not ruled out.
