Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II expressed his distrust in what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been saying, but his trust lies in the fact that there are Israeli officials whom Arab leaders can deal with.
The King warned that the Middle East is doomed to disaster unless a peace process leading to an independent Palestinian state is achieved.
His Majesty's statements came in an exclusive interview on the "Panorama" program on "BBC channel".
His Majesty said, if this issue is not resolved, and if a future for Palestinians and Israelis is not secured, along with relations between the Arab and Islamic worlds and Israel, we are doomed to disaster.
The King clarified that the region has seen many failed peace attempts, and that implementing a two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip alongside Israel is the only solution.
He added, "I hope we can get things back on track, but with a political horizon, because if we don't solve this problem, we will return to it again."
Regarding Hamas' agreement to hand over administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent Palestinian authority under a ceasefire agreement, His Majesty the King said he has received assurances from the mediators (Egypt and Qatar), which are very optimistic that the movement will commit to it.
He emphasized that after achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, it will be essential for U.S. President Donald Trump to remain engaged in the process, saying: "In our discussions with President Trump, he realizes that the issue is not just about Gaza or a specific political horizon, but that he wants to achieve peace in the entire region, which will not happen unless Palestinians have a future."
