Khaberni - Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al Saud discussed on Monday in Cairo with European Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience, and Circular Economy, Jessica Roswall, the aspects of cooperation to complete programs and projects implemented with the EU and the water sector, and mechanisms to enhance and expedite their completion on the sidelines of the eighth Cairo Water Week.
The two sides confirmed during the meeting, attended by the Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority Hisham Al Heisah, the importance of enhancing this ongoing cooperation, and continuing to implement water programs and projects that ensure improved service levels across all regions of the kingdom.
Abu Al Saud emphasized the ministry's keenness to enhance constructive cooperation, benefitting from European expertise in the fields of water and sanitation. He noted that this cooperation has contributed to improving the quality of services provided, the management of scarce water resources, and enhancing water access for many citizens in the face of climate change impacts.
The minister also highlighted the other challenges facing the water sector as one of the most water-poor and strained sectors due to ongoing pressures over many past years, which have imposed a continuous decline in various water resources, challenges of water loss, rising operating and energy costs, irrigation water challenges, Jordanian efforts in the fields of utilizing treated water, and planned projects to secure new water sources such as the national carrier project.
For her part, Jessica Roswall emphasized the importance of continuing constructive cooperation between both sides, and its continuation in various fields, especially in the water sector.
